Change Made Simple
Reinventing from an Academic to an Entrepreneur with Maruta Vitols
From the age of 17, Maruta Vitols knew she wanted to be a professor.

After earning a PhD in Art History specializing in Film Studies from Ohio State University, Marita taught Media Studies at Emerson College and Olin College of Engineering.

Over time, Maruta experienced the growing downside of her career: less focus on students and more emphasis on the universities’ bottom lines.

In her roles at Olin as an application reader, admissions committee voting member, and Fulbright Committee member, Maruta felt fulfilled helping students with life issues.

These considerations propelled her to a new career as the principal of A+ College Consulting, currently advising 9-12th graders.

Maruta’s Key Takeaways
  1. Having other people believe in you and your abilities is crucial.
  2. Seek out people who possess the knowledge that you need.
  3. Invest in self-care, so you can sustain momentum and motivation for your career reinvention.
